The General Constitution

Of the Order of Friar Minors

The General Constitutions provide the basic norms to regulate the life of all friars everywhere in accordance with the Rule. All the friars are to strive to observe with the greatest care, the laws contained in these General Constitutions.

Unless these are faithfully observed, fraternal fellowship and evangelical perfection can hardly be achieved in a manner proper to the Order. The declarative interpretation of the General Constitutions belongs to the General Chapter; their authentic interpretation however, is reserved to the Holy See.

“The brothers are bound to obey Brother Francis and his successors.”
