15 May Conference for Provinces in Spain and Portugal
From May 1-4, 2016, CONFRES (Conference for Provinces in Spain and Portugal) spent annual interprovincial week entitled “Friars and Minors today.” The meetings were held in Madrid at the House of spirituality of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Mother of the Divine Shepherd. Approximately 40 Friars from the four Provinces of the Conference attended. The themes for reflection presented by some speakers allowed the participants to discuss and dialogue on the future of religious life, the fundamental dimension of the brotherhood and the relationship between religious and spiritual formation, and the influence of social learning on the consecrated life. The Conference dedicated a good deal of time to sharing and processing everything regarding life in the provinces and shared projects.
The general Minister, Br. Michael a. Perry, joined the brothers on the evening of third day to share in their moments of brotherhood, reflection and prayer. After dinner, the Minister, together with the general Definitor Br. Antonio Scabio, met with the provincial Ministers of the Conference to share the journey and hopes of the friars in Spain and Portugal. The following day the general Minister presented to the Assembly a reflection entitled “Friars Minor today: Missionaries of Mercy to the Outskirts”, followed by an in-depth dialogue with the brothers. He then presided over the Meeting’s final Celebration of the Eucharistic. The days were characterized by an atmosphere of brotherhood, sharing and joy.
