17 Mar FRANCISCAN SOLIDARITY NETWORK: SEEDS OF PEACE IN LITHUANIA
“I would like once again to urge the welcoming of the many refugees, in whom Christ is present, and to give thanks for the great network of solidarity that has formed”. Pope Francis, Angelus of Sunday 13 March 2022.
The FRANCISCAN SOLIDARITY NETWORK: SEEDS OF PEACE is also active in Lithuania, in the Franciscan Province of St. Casimir. Brother Evaldas Darulis, the Provincial, shares with us their concern to help: “Since the war broke out in Ukraine, we have been meeting as a Definitory to organise how we can practically help the refugees”.
As a concrete action, the Province has decided to open the doors of its friaries and parishes: “We have calculated that we can accept 48 refugees from Ukraine in the friaries in Lithuania. One family is already living in Vilnius and two in Klaipeda, one child is attending our kindergarten in Klaipeda, and another is attending our school in Kretinga. We are preparing the parish house in Kretinga to welcome the refugees”.
The Franciscan Network is a project that consists of sharing, via our website www.ofm.org and other channels, the initiatives of welcome, charity and accompaniment that the friars of the Franciscan Family are carrying out in the world in order to be close to and take care of the suffering and misery generated in so many situations of poverty and distress.
