Meeting between the Minister General, General Definitory and the Visitators General 2016

With the celebration of the Mass, we begin our gathering of the General Visitators with the General Minister and the General Definitorium. We pray to be prepared to fulfill the office entrusted to us, in accordance with the guidelines of the order. Borrowing the words of the book of the Revelation, I wish “grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, …Jesus Christ, (1:4-5). We present ourselves to God so we might live these days in God’s presence and be enlightened by God’s Word. (Opening Mass Homily, Vicar General)

The Canonical Visitation is regulated by the Code of Canon Law, by our Constitutions and General Statutes, by the Statutes for the Canonical Visitation and Presidency of the Provincial Chapter, as well as by other documents of the Church. It pertains to the Minister to carry out the Canonical Visitation either personally or through Delegates (cf. SSCV 1). During the Canonical Visitation, the Visitator “represents the Minister and acts in his name (SSCV 8 §1). Even though it may have special legal connotations, the Canonical Visitation must, however, be carried out in the spirit which Francis indicated for visits to the Friars.
