07 Feb Minister General visits Egypt, Morocco and Mexico
From 4 February 2022, Br Massimo Fusarelli, Minister General, will visit three entities of the Order: the Province of the Holy Family of Egypt, the Autonomous Custody of the Protomartyrs in Morocco and the Province of San Junipero Serra in Mexico.
The first stage of the visit is Egypt from 4 to 9 February. Meetings are planned with the Provincial Definitory, guardians, solemnly professed friars, friars in formation and postulants of the Province involved in the various settings of Alexandria, Cairo, Giza and Mokatam.
In addition to the Egyptian friars, Br Massimo will meet the Franciscan Family, the Apostolic Nuncio and the Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros. The visit concludes on 8 February with a time of listening for our brothers involved in Sudan and with other friars.
The second stage of the trip is the Canonical Visitation of the Custody of the Protomartyrs in Morocco, dependent on the Minister General, from 10 to 22 February. This stage will include private and community meetings with the friars in Rabat, Marrakech, Fez, Tétouan, Tangier and Larrache. The friars in Morocco, whose presence dates back to the time of St Francis, are dedicated to pastoral service, interreligious dialogue, spiritual assistance to the Franciscan Family, immigrants and prisoners.
The Minister General’s journey ends with a fraternal visit to the San Junipero Serra Province in Mexico, from 24 to 28 February, where the Minister will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Province with the friars.
