UPDATE ON THE MINISTER GENERAL’S SITUATION.

Dear brothers and sisters,

May the Lord give you peace!

Tomorrow, Monday 27 September, the Holy Father Pope Francis was scheduled to receive the Minister General and Definitory, so they could officially greet him as the newly elected General Government, on behalf of all the friars of the Order. Therefore, although the members of the Definitory are already vaccinated, it was considered advisable to have everyone undergo a rapid antigenic test. The result of this test was positive for Br Massimo Fusarelli and negative for the others. This was followed by a more reliable PCR test this morning in a laboratory in Rome. Br Massimo received the result four hours later, confirming that he is positive and asymptomatic. Thank God he is well, but for now, he has to follow the protocol required in these cases: he has to enter a period of voluntary isolation for ten days while we await the result of the next test, which we hope will be negative.

All scheduled appointments on his diary are therefore cancelled, and the Minister will be represented by the Vicar General, Br Isauro Covili, particularly in Assisi, at the meeting of the Ministers General and of the Franciscan Family, as well as for the celebrations marking the Solemnity of St Francis.

The Minister recognises that he is called to a different type of Novena and Feast of St. Francis this year! Therefore, he sincerely thanks everyone for their support, prayer and spiritual companionship while he, in turn, assures all of you of his prayers during these special days of preparation for the annual celebration of Our Father and Brother St Francis.

Fraternally,

General Curia Communication Office
