Vicar General visits Ecuador

The Vicar General, Br Isauro Ulises Covili Linfati, has concluded the Fraternal and Pastoral Visit to the Franciscan Province of St Francis in Ecuador, which took place from 22 to 28 November last. “The pilgrim people of God in Ecuador have a very high esteem for the Franciscan friars who have been walking and proclaiming the Gospel in these lands for more than 450 years”.

I had a long meeting with the Minister Provincial and his Definitory, as well as with the Formators. They were meetings in which the friars were able to speak about their Franciscan life. For my part, I listened, encouraged and spoke clearly during the various topics discussed”. Among the topics discussed was the Safeguarding of Minors and Vulnerable Adults and the consequent need to create a specific Commission.

On the last day of the Visit, the Vicar General had a meeting with the Franciscan Family of Ecuador. Once again, he dealt with the issue of abuse and the safeguarding of minors and adults.

In addition to the friars and the Franciscan Family, the Vicar General had meetings with the ecclesiastical authorities of the Nation, such as Archbishop Carrascosa Coso, Apostolic Nuncio and Archbishop Alfredo Espinoza Mateus, Archbishop of Quito.
