The Minister General, Br Massimo Fusarelli, has issued a letter, “Let us begin again, brothers, to serve the Lord”, presenting the Guidelines for the 2021-27 sexennium. “The General Chapter asked us to renew our vision and embrace our future. The General Definitory has begun to reflect on how to launch this invitation and let it develop among the friars, Entities and Conferences”. In the letter, the Minister called a Chapter of Mats to be held in 2025. He wrote, “the preparation will begin in January 2022 and will be discussed with the Presidents of the Conferences in May 2022. It will then continue at the various levels of the Order among us friars and with those with whom we share the charism in many ways and also with people who remain on the margins of the Church”. In the Guidelines, the Order’s concern for safeguarding minors and vulnerable adults is highlighted, among the various themes set out: “An Office for the Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults has been established to work in close collaboration with the International Commission for Safeguarding. The office’s objective will not only be the handling of cases of abuse but the development of prevention programmes in view of a “distinctively Franciscan culture” of protection and safeguarding in all our entities”.
