7 October, Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace

Adhesion of the Minister General and appeal to participate

01 October 2024

Br. Massimo Fusarelli, OFM Minister General, invites all the brothers, the contemplative Sisters and the lay members of the Franciscan family to join next October 7 in the day of prayer and fasting for peace, announced by Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, OFM, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.

Coinciding with the beginning of the Triduum of St. Francis, “I ask all of us to unite in prayer and in a sign of penance to intercede for peace in the world and, above all, in the Holy Land.”  We read in his message, which continues: “With this gesture we too become, wherever we live, signs and mediators of peace, justice and reconciliation”.

October 7 will mark the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks in Israel, followed by twelve months in which “we have witnessed tragedies that, because of their intensity and impact, have deeply torn our conscience and our sense of humanity”, reads the message from Cardinal Pizzaballa.

Br. Francesco Patton, OFM, Custos of the Holy Land, also joined the day of prayer on behalf of the entire custody: “On October 7 we celebrate the memory of Mary, Queen of the Rosary”, he wrote in his letter, “and the month of October is the Marian month dedicated to the prayer of the Rosary: let us try to enhance this form of prayer personally and in fraternity to implore the gift of peace.”
