The Friars Minor of the Franciscan Province of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in Brazil, came together from the 6th to the 10th of January, 2025, for a Provincial Chapter along with their Visitator General, Br. Robson Luís Scudela, OFM.
The men of the Province were overjoyed to come together as brothers as they reflected on the following themes: Prayer life and fraternal life, fraternal economy, integral ecology, Formation & Studies, Mission & Evangelization. Based on discussing these themes, the Friars enumerated some priorities which would serve as proposals to guide the way of life in their entity. There were also a number of Friars of the Province who gave reports on their different service ministries, offering a panoramic view of the Province’s progress made in these last six years.
The election of the new Provincial government unfolded with great peace among the brothers who prayed to the Holy Spirit, acknowledging the Spirit as the true “Minister General” of the Order, and asking that the Spirit guide them towards the good of the Church and the Order.
And so, the Provincial leadership for the brotherhood was elected: Br. Antônio Pacheco Ramos (re-elected as Minister Provincial), Br. Pedro Nazario de Sousa Filho (Vicar Provincial) and the Definatorium: Fr. Christopher Jackson dos Santos Melo, Br. Claudio da Silva Santos, Br. Francisco Heleno Moreira de Oliveira, and Br. Gilberto Magno da Cruz.
We pray through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Assumed into Heaven, for this new Provincial leadership, and that our Seraphic Father Saint Francis be a model of service for all the brothers entrusted with such an important mission in our world.
