Day of Human Fraternity in Izmir, Turkey

Reflection and common prayer

On the 10th February at the Italian Cultural Centre “Casa Italia” in Izmir, Turkey, a meeting of religious leaders of the city was held for a moment of reflection and common prayer.

The event, organized by the Diocesan Commission for Interreligious Dialogue with the participation of the friars of the Fraternity of Bornova (Smyrna), brought together several prominent figures.

The meeting was attended by the Consul General of Italy in Izmir, the Archbishop of Izmir, the Anglican Chaplain, the Dede of the Dervishes of Magnesia (Manisa), a delegate of the Synagogue of Smyrna, the Mufti of the neighbourhood, together with members of the communities, priests and religious.

The event began with a short lecture given by one of the friars, accompanied by local musicians who performed significant pieces in Turkish. Subsequently, each religious leader shared their own spiritual reflection.

Inspired by Pope Francis' words for this occasion, the meeting ended with a prayer for peace and for the victims of wars, followed by a short musical intervention.

These meetings represent an important opportunity for mutual knowledge, fostering new friendships and ways of dialogue to build a more peaceful and tolerant world.
