Meeting with the Visitators - 2
18 November 2021
The General Definitory, together with the Visitators, continued its work at the General Curia in Rome today. Br Jimmy Zammit, General Definitor, presided at the Mass and invited the Visitators to serve in the very spirit of Christ: “Truly you can expect to be blessed by meeting the Lord in sharing with the brothers... and perhaps you will hear the words: ‘Truly I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me’”.
After Mass, the meeting continued with a presentation of the work carried out by the various Secretariats of the General Curia. The Secretariat for Formation and Studies, represented by Br Darko Tepert and Br Hieronimus Yosep Dei Rupa, began the presentation. They asked the Visitators to encourage the Provinces to use the Order’s study and research centres by sending friars for both studies and teaching. Br Francisco Gómez Vargas, of the Secretariat of Missions and Evangelisation, presented the Order’s evangelisation projects focusing on the missions in America, Africa and Asia. Br Francesco Patton, Custos of the Holy Land, spoke online about the importance of the Commissariats of the Holy Land in establishing a link between the Holy Land and the local Churches, a service that is carried out through the organisation of pilgrimages and fundraising. Br Ignacio Ceja, General Delegate Pro Monialibus, i.e., Delegate for assistance to the Poor Clares, emphasised two aspects to be considered in the canonical visitation: the fraternal visit to the monasteries of the Poor Clares of the 2nd and 3rd Orders; secondly, the care of the forms to be filled in on the situation of the Provinces regarding the number of associated monasteries.
Br Angelito Cortez, Vice-Director for Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation, concluded the morning’s work. He reminded the General Visitators of the task they have to assess and promote Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation projects in initial and ongoing formation, evangelisation and other areas of our life.
In the afternoon, the work continued in language groups.
