Parish Nativity scene exhibition in Bordighera (Italy)

Parish of the “Immaculate Conception”

20 December 2024

On the 10th December 2024, the parish of the “Immaculate Conception” (known as the parish of Terra Sancta) in Bordighera (IM, Italy) inaugurated the Nativity Scene Exhibition that will be open until the 6th January 2025.

The over 130 Nativity scenes from the private collection of Mrs. Maria Filip, made of various materials (porcelain, glass, different types of wood, textile fibers, clay), coming from all over the world: Peru, Mexico, Bangladesh, China, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Portugal, Nigeria, Kenya and many other countries, which allow you to discover how the birth of Jesus is portrayed in each of the corresponding cultures. “Very different representations from each other, since each of them also reflects the traditions of the places where it was created; and yet, despite the differences, they all share the centrality of the Holy Family and the hope in the coming Child Jesus,” explains the parish priest Fr. Faustino Kushnir, OFM.

Inside the apse of the church, a large statue was built in which the representation of the Nativity scene stands out in the foreground, placed in a setting that depicts the city of Bordighera in the 1800s.

The theme of the Jubilee 2025, “Pilgrims of Hope,” chosen by Pope Francis to invite the faithful to undertake a journey of spiritual renewal and trust in the future, is represented in the walkway that leads into the Nativity scene with an exit on the opposite side to the entrance: “An invitation to walk with trust through our world, but always guided by faith and hope,” says Fr. Faustino.

The Nativity scene was set up by Mr. Fulvio De Benedetti and made together with ten collaborators over a period of about 300 hours of work.
