“San Francesco stigmatizzato. L’innovazione materno-sacerdotale delle creature” (St. Francis stigmatized. The maternal-priestly innovation of creatures), a book by Fr. Dario Chiapetti, OFM, has been recently published by Edizioni Biblioteca Francescana.
The study aims to ex-ducere (to educate/guide outside) and investigate the theology of the thought and life of Francis of Assisi (1182-1226), with a particular focus on the peak reached in the last two years of the latter: the event of the stigmatization at La Verna (1224), the stay at St. Damiano by St Clare of Assisi (1194-1253) with the composition of the Canticle of Brother Sun (1225) and his “blessed transitus” (1226). With a diachronic and hermeneutical approach to life that considers his writings and the primary sources on him, the opposition or extraneousness between the former and the latter and, more radically, both devotional and rationalist readings of the saint is questioned. This is how Francis' dogmatics of novelty in the continuity of Tradition for the Church in the contemporary world are outlined.
The preface is edited by Br. Massimo Fusarelli, Minister General of the Order of Friars Minor, whilst the afterword was written by Prof. Piero Coda, Secretary General of the International Theological Commission.
