Promulgation of Decree of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints

On the 19^thof May 2018, the Holy Father Francis received at the hearing the Em. Mo Card. Angelo Amato, S.D.B., prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. During the hearing, the Supreme Pontiff authorized the congregation to promulgate the decree concerning the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Francisca de las Llagas de Jesus (born Coloma Antonia Martí i Valls), professed nun of the Second Order of Saint Francis of the Monastery of the Divine Providence of Badalona. Born in Badalona (Spain) on June 26, 1860 and died there on June 4, 1899.  

Venerable Francisca de las Llagas de Jesús Martí y Valls

Coloma Martí y Valls was born in Badalona, diocese of Barcelona (Spain) in 1860. At the age of 22 she entered the monastery of the Poor Clares of the Divine Providence in her hometown, where she was professed in 1883. She shone for her baptismal purity, spousal love of Christ, charity to the sisters, and her spirit of penance and reparation for the sins of the world. A deeply contemplative person, she had extraordinary gifts of grace, always lived in humility and enclosure. She died on June 4, 1899, at the age of 39. The fame of her holiness of life developed extensively after her death, to the point that during the Spanish Civil War her tomb was spared by the general devastation that was wreaked upon the monastery. The cause of her canonization began in 1925.
