Venerable Maria Hueber, Foundress of the Tertiary Sisters of Saint Francis of Brixen

On 19th March 2019, the Holy Father Francis received His Eminence Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in audience, and authorised the Congregation to promulgate the Decree concerning the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Maria Hueber, Foundress of the Congregation of Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis of Brixen, born in Brixen on 22nd May 1653 and died there on 31st July 1705.
The Venerable Maria Hueber (Brixen - 1653), developed her life of faith and charity in the wellspring of Franciscan spirituality. Humility, poverty and demanding work distinguish this generous woman of the people who under the leadership of the Friars Minor in 1701 started a new religious family the "Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis" in Brixen to open the first school for poor girls in Tyrol. She was favoured by mystical gifts and an intense life of prayer, overcoming obstacles and contradictions with heroic fortitude and unlimited trust in Providence. She died in 1705 with a widespread reputation for holiness. The process for her beatification began in 1996.
