On the 28th January, 2025, the Custody of St. Benedict of the Amazon experienced a special moment when it welcomed nine of the ten young people approved for a vocational experience at the Welcome Fraternities (AVFs). These young people, who come from different areas of the Amazon, stand out for their cultural diversity and include, with great joy, three young people from the indigenous Munduruku.
During the year 2024, these young people were accompanied by the vocation animator of the Custody, Br. Erlison Campos, with the support of the local animator friars, who helped in the discernment of each one. The joint effort reflects the Custody's commitment to promoting a solid formation and attentive listening to God's call.
The welcome Mass presided over by Br. Edilson Rocha, Custodial Minister, marked the beginning of this new stage. In his homily, the Minister encouraged young people to embrace the path of discernment with courage and commitment, stressing: "Do the will of God".
The week of integration, which takes place in the city of Santarém, will be a time of fraternal coexistence, of human and spiritual formation, which will offer young people a deeper encounter with Franciscan spirituality. After this first phase, the young people will be sent to two fraternities: Monte Alegre and Manaus, where they will continue their vocational journey.
This moment is a sign of hope for the whole Order, which shows how the Franciscan charism continues to resonate in the hearts of many people, especially in the rich and demanding reality of the Amazon. We ask for the prayers of the entire Franciscan family for these young people, that they may be strengthened in their search for God's will, inspired by the example of St. Francis and committed to the mission of serving the most needy.
