What sums up St. Francis’ spirituality? The Canticle of the Creatures

Br. Murray Bodo explains the meaning of St. Francis' prayer of praise to God through Mother Earth. The universe that God created is the primary revelation to humankind. It's the primary Scripture, and Francis helps us connect again to all creatures and to the Earth itself. The Canticle of the Creatures for Francis summed up his whole spirituality and his whole life, because he praises God by being a part of all of the created world. He singles out the four elements of earth, water, air, and fire. And he calls them his brother and sisters:

Sister Water

Brother Wind

Sister Mother Earth

They became his brother and sister, and he praised God with them and by means of them. The universe that God created is the primary revelation to us. It's the primary Scripture, and I see in Francis someone who will help us connect again to the animals, to the birds, to the oceans, to the Earth itself.
