The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Carlos Alberto Breis Pereira, O.F.M., as coadjutor archbishop of Maceió, Brazil, transferring him from the diocese of Juazeiro.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Carlos Alberto Breis Pereira, O.F.M., was born on 16 September 1965 in São Francisco do Sul, diocese of Joinville, in the State of Santa Catarina. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Instituto de Teologia do Recife-ITER in Recife-PE and in theology at the Instituto Franciscano de Teologia de Olinda-IFTO in Olinda-PE. He was awarded a licentiate in spiritual theology at the Pontifical University “Antonianum” of Rome.
On 10 January 1987 he gave his religious vows in the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor and was ordained a priest on 20 August 1994.
He has held the following offices: parish priest, master of the professed, provincial secretary, guardian and provincial definitor, provincial vicar, moderator of permanent formation, coordinator of the formation service of the Franciscan Conference in Brazil, and provincial minister of the Franciscan province of Santo Antonio based in Recife-PE.
On 17 February 2016 he was appointed coadjutor bishop of Juazeiro and received episcopal ordination the following 7 May. On 7 September 2016 he became ordinary bishop.
He is currently president of the Regional Nordeste 3 of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil, which includes the ecclesiastical circumscriptions of the States of Bahia and Sergipe.
