Br. Evaristo Spengler OFM Nominated Bishop Prelate of Marajó, Brazil

Vatican City, 1 June 2016 – The Holy Father has appointed Br. Evaristo Pascoal Spengler, OFM, as bishop prelate of Marajó, Brazil. The bishop-elect was born in Gaspar, Brazil in 1959, gave his religious vows in 1982 and was ordained a priest in 1984. He holds a licentiate in biblical exegesis and has served in a number of offices, including parish vicar, deputy master of students at Duque de Caxias-RJ., assistant at the "Santo Antônio" convent in Rio de Janeiro, missionary and parish vicar in Angola, and provincial definitor. He is currently vice minister of the "Imaculada Conceição do Brasil" Franciscan province in São Paulo. He succeeds Bishop José Luiz Azcona Hermoso, OAR, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same territorial prelature upon reaching the age limit was accepted by the Holy Father.
