Br. Neri Menor Vargas OFM Nominated Bishop of Huanuco in Peru

12 May 2016 - The Pope appointed Fr. Francisco Neri Minor Vargas OFM as Bishop of Huanuco in Peru. The bishop-elect was born in 1960 in Pacopampa (Peru), he made Solemn Vows in 1998 and was ordained priest in 2000. He studied philosophy and theology at the John XXIII Institute of Advanced Studies in Lima. Some of his pastoral assignments include, among other positions, Guardian of the fraternity, Pastor, Provincial Definitor, Secretary for Formation and Studies, Professor of the Franciscan students of Lima and Cuzco, and member of the presbyteral council of the Archdiocese of Arequipa. He is currently the Provincial Minister of the Franciscan Province "The XII Apostles" in Peru. He succeeds Bishop Jaime Rodríguez Salazar, MCCJ, whose resignation from the pastoral governance of the diocese was accepted because of age.
