Franciscans in Canada Renew, Restructure and Ready the Way

22 February 2016
Cochrane, AB, 15-19 February - The work of the Trans-Canada restructuring of the Franciscan Provinces made a significant step forward at the recently concluded Chapter of Christ the King Province in Western Canada. Twenty-six friars, in addition to Br. Ambrose Van Si (Visitor General), Br. Richard McManus (Chapter Facilitator) and Br. Caoimhín Ó Laoide (ESC Definitor), were present along with Brs. Marc Le Goanvec and Pierre Charland, Minister and Vicar Provincial from St. Joseph Province (Quebec) and Br. Rohwin Pais from the St. Francis Foundation (Ontario). The gathering, with its rhythm of prayer and discussions produced unanimous resolutions to further the work of restructuring of the Franciscan presence in Canada. The Chapter also elected Br. Robert (Bob) Mokry as Provincial Minister. Br. Bob has just returned from missionary work in Morocco. The friars ended the Chapter with enthusiasm and hope as they continue to embrace the work of renewal, restructuring and readying the way for how they will continue to be a gospel presence in Canada.
