On 7 May 2016, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, visited the Franciscan Friary and Shrine of the Hill of the Crosses near Siauliai (Lithuania) and celebrated Mass with the local Bishop and the Friars. The Cardinal was participating on behalf of the Holy Father in the National Congress of Divine Mercy held in Vilnius on 6-8 May on the occasion of the Year of Divine Mercy. The original image of the Divine Mercy (by St. Faustina Kowalska) is preserved in Vilnius.
