Friars Run for Hope

05 June 2017
Franciscan Friars participated in the annual “Run for Hope” in Klaipedia, Lithuania to benefit the St. Francis Oncology Center in Klaipedia.  Numbered among the thousands of runners are Br. Algirdas Malakauskis OFM, Provincial Minister of St. Casimir Province, and Br. Michel Laloux OFM, Provincial Minister of the Province of Bl. John Dun Scotus in France and Belgium   who both ran 21 kilometers, while Br. Evaldas Darulis OFM, pastor of St. Francis Parish in Vilnius ran the whole marathon.  Runners can choose to run between 600 meters to 42 kilometers. The Friars of Lithuania started this event ten years ago to express solidarity with those who are suffering from cancer and to support the St. Francis Oncology Center.  The center, founded by the St. Casimir Province of Lithuania, offers various therapies (including music and dance) and sessions with a psychologist or with a priest. Aside from providing information about diseases and their treatments, the center also provides community to the people.  The services are provided free of charge.
