Help Urgently Needed for Ecuador

Collaboration for the Earthquake in Ecuador! 28 April 2016 May the Lord give you peace! Last 16th April, an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale struck the Province of Manabil in Ecuador, leaving numerous dead and many wounded. The Order immediately felt a special concern and solicitude for the brothers and sisters in Ecuador, expressing its solidarity by commencing prayers for the whole people of Ecuador. Now we wish to take a further step in solidarity; we invite you to collaborate with the solidarity project begun by the Franciscan friars who are present in Ecuador. The first action taken was for immediate help through the collection of primary goods thanks to the Radio, “Francisco Stereo” and “Gesù del Gran Poder”, advancing the campaign to collect assistance in the historical Plaza San Francisco in Quito. However the project must also confront other medium-term challenges: the construction of popular housing in wood with basic services, “something which can satisfy the needs of many people who have no place in which to live or sleep” says Fr. Mario Liroy Ortega OFM, the Provincial Minister in Ecuador. He adds, “In order to carry out this project we have need of international help and solidarity”. For this reason, brothers and sisters, from the General Curia of the Friars Minor, we invite you to collaborate in the promotion of this project.
