IN MEMORY OF BISHOP FABIO DUQUE JARAMILLO, OFM (1950-2022)

On 9 February 2022, Bishop Fabio Duque Jaramillo, OFM, bishop of Garzón, Colombia,in Medellín, returned to the Father’s House at the age of 71.

Bishop Fabio was born in Armenia, capital of Qundio, Colombia, on 12 May 1950. He took his first vows on 15 January 1972, solemn vows on 1 February 1975 and was ordained a priest on 29 November 1975. After graduating in Philosophy and Theology from our University of St Bonaventure in Bogota, he obtained a doctorate in Liturgy from the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant’Anselmo in Rome (1985-1990). He rendered numerous services to his Province, such as Vice-Master of Novices, Vice-Master of Temporary Professed, member of the Council, Dean and Professor of Liturgy and Patristics at the Faculty of Theology of St Bonaventure University in Bogota, Visiting Professor of Liturgy at the Regina Mundi Institute in Rome, Guardian of St Bernardine Friary in Bogota, President of the Commission for Dialogue with the Cultures of the Order, Parochial Vicar of St Francis of Assisi in Barranquilla. From 1994 to 2003, he served the Holy See at the Pontifical Council for Culture as an Official and, from 1997, as Under-Secretary. Appointed bishop of Armenia by Pope John Paul II on 29 November 2003, he received episcopal ordination on 31 January. Eight years later, in 2012, he was appointed bishop of Garzón by Pope Benedict XVI, a post he held until his death. We entrust him to the Lord, praying that his soul may be received into the eternal peace of good and faithful servants.
