"In his life, Cardinal Hummes sowed the Gospel. In his memory, we celebrate Mass for the evangelisation of peoples." This is how Br Francesco Piloni, Provincial of Umbria, invited the new provincials and custodes gathered in Rome for formation, to remember the Franciscan Cardinal. He left his mark on the lives of many, including Pope Francis. In his telegram of condolence, the pontiff himself recalled: "I always keep alive in my memory the words that Archbishop Claudio said to me on 13 March 2013, asking me not to forget the poor". Cardinal Claudio Hummes, who died on 4 July at his residence in São Paulo, Brazil, was buried in the crypt of the same city's cathedral yesterday, 7 July.
