Francis was undoubtedly a seeker of God, and thanks to his tireless perseverance and dedication, he experienced His presence in many ways and places. To remind us of some of them, we need only mention the little church of San Damiano, his encounter with the leper, his reading and meditation on the Gospel, his moments of prayer, and his dreams.
However, the encounter that left visible and indelible marks in his body, “the last seal”, as Dante calls them, i.e. the stigmata, took place “two years before his death, while he was praying on a slope of the mountain called Alverna”…
