Meeting of those responsible for Formation from the Provinces of Slovakia and Czech Republic

14 October 2026From 11 to 13 October 2026, a fraternal meeting of those responsible for Formation and Studies in the Franciscan Provinces of Saint Wenceslas (Czech Republic) and Holy Saviour (Slovakia) was held in Bratislava (Czech Republic). The Provincial Secretaries for Formation and Studies took part, together with the formators involved in the various stages of initial and ongoing formation.
The meeting provided an opportunity to share the current situation of formation in the two Provinces, to discuss the different stages of the formation journey, and to reflect on possibilities for ever closer collaboration. Particular attention was given to the experience of the common postulancy, initial and ongoing formation, and the coordination of several shared formation initiatives.
The guest of the meeting was Br Sergiusz Bałdyga, OFM, Secretary for Formation and Studies of the North-Slavic Conference (SLAN), who presented a reflection entitled “Vocation Ministry, Formation and Mission: One Journey of Discernment.” Inspired by the recent letters on formation by the Minister General and the General Secretary for Formation and Studies OFM, the presentation proposed looking at the vocational and formation journey through three Gospel dynamics: “Come and see” – “Remain” – “Go out two by two.” Vocation ministry, formation and mission are not separate realities, but rather different stages of a single process of encountering Christ, discernment, growth in fraternity and missionary sending.
The friars also devoted time to sharing the experiences, challenges and perspectives of their respective Provinces, encouraging one another and seeking concrete forms of collaboration.
The meeting took place in a warm and fraternal atmosphere, enriched by the generous hospitality of the Franciscan fraternity in Bratislava, and provided a further opportunity to strengthen the bonds and the common journey between the friars of the two Provinces.
