Lithuanian Franciscan Family celebrated the Feast of Mercy

14 September 2016
The Franciscan Family in Lithuania celebrated a very special “Feast of Mercy” on 27 August 2016 to commemorate, not only the Jubilee Year of Mercy and the 800th Anniversary of the Pardon of Assisi, but also the 25th year of the reestablishment of the Third Order and the 10th year of the establishment of the Franciscan Youth Fraternity in Lithuania. The feast was held in Kretinga, Lithuania’s center of Franciscan Spirituality as it was the town where the Friars made a new beginning in 1989 after living underground. The occasion also marked the first time in the history since Lithuania’s independence that members of all the different branches and orders of the Franciscan Family, numbering almost 300, were gathered. The central part of the program was the evening of prayer where all the current and previous Major Superiors led a Prayer of Reconciliation and have consecrated all of the Lithuanian Franciscan Family to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
