On the 1st July, after a long journey of discernment and preparation, the canonical erection of the new autonomous Custody of “Our Lady of Kibeho” of Burundi-Rwanda was announced in Kigali, Rwanda. This event was attended by the Vicar General Br. Ignacio Ceja Jiménez and the Definitor General for Africa Br. Victor Luis Quematcha, together with the Visitor and Delegate General Br. Teofil Czarniak and Br. Fredrick Owor, Minister Provincial of the Mother Province of St. Francis of Nairobi.
The government of the Custody is made up of Br. Théoneste Twahirwa, Custos; Br. Herménégilde Birush, Custodial Vicar; Br. Innocent Harelimana, Br. Nicodème Kibuzehose and Br. Alexis Niyongabo, Custodial Councillors.
We thank the Lord for this sign of vitality of our Franciscan presence in Africa, which gives hope to the whole Order and to the Church.
