Pope Francis appoints Evaristo Pascoal Spengler, OFM, bishop of Roraima (Brazil)

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Roraima (Brazil) H.E. Bishop Evaristo Pascoal Spengler, OFM, transferring him from the Territorial Prelature of Marajó.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Evaristo Pascoal Spengler, O.F.M., was born on March 29, 1959 in Gaspar, Diocese of Blumenau, in the State of Santa Catarina. After completing his studies in Philosophy and Theology at the Instituto Teológico Franciscano (ITF) in Petrópolis-RJ, he obtained a Licentiate in Biblical Exegesis in Jerusalem.

On 2 August 1982 he made his religious profession in the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor and was ordained a priest on 19 May 1984.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar and member of the urban biblical team in Duque de Caxias-RJ and in Nilópolis-RJ; Vice Master of the student friars in Duque de Caxias-RJ; Conventual Assistant in the Santo Antônio Convent of Rio de Janeiro-RJ; missionary and parish vicar in Malanje (Angola); Provincial Definitor; Vicar Provincial of the Franciscan Province Imaculada Conceição do Brasil with headquarters in São Paulo (2016).

On 1 June 2016 he was appointed Bishop Prelate of Marajó and received episcopal ordination on the following 6 August.
Within the Brazilian Episcopal Conference, he is President of the Special Pastoral Commission against Human Trafficking and Member of the Special Episcopal Commission for the Amazon. Furthermore, he is President of the Rede Eclesial Pan-Amazônica (REPAM-Brasil).
