On the afternoon of 20 October 2020, the Holy Father Francis participated in the Prayer Meeting for Peace, “No one is saved alone - Peace and Fraternity”, promoted by the
Sant’Egidio Community.
At 17.15, after presiding at the moment of ecumenical prayer for peace with other Christian denominations in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Aracoeli, Pope Francis took part in the ceremony with the representatives of the great world religions in Piazza del Campidoglio, on the Capitoline Hill.
After the interventions by Professor Andrea Riccardi, founder of the
Sant’Egidio Community, the President of the Italian Republic, Hon. Sergio Mattarella, and the religious leaders present, the Holy Father gave his address.
After a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of the pandemic, all wars, terrorism and violence in every part of the world, the Appeal for Peace Rome 2020 was read. Some children then received the text of the appeal from the religious leaders and gave them to the ambassadors and representatives of national and international politics present.
At the end of the meeting, after the lighting of the candelabrum of peace by the Holy Father and the religious leaders, and the sign of peace, at around 19.00, the Pope returned to the Vatican.
