The Bishop of Assisi, Mons. Domenico Sorrentino, the General Minister of the Order of Friars Minor, Br. Michael A. Perry, the Provincial Minister of the Friars Minor of Umbria, Br. Claudio Durighetto, the Custos of the Porziuncola, Br. Rosario Gugliotta, in communion with the whole Franciscan family, announce that the Pope will visit the Porziuncola on the afternoon of 4 August 2016.
Given this providential opportunity during the 800th anniversary of the Pardon of Assisi, in this extraordinary Holy Year of mercy, Pope Francis will visit privately as a pilgrim in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, where he will offer prayers and a few words.
