Pre-Christmas Meeting of the SLAN e SLAS

General Curia, November 26, 2023

27 November 2023

On the last Sunday of the liturgical year, the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe, a pre-Christmas meeting for the brothers (friars) of the North and South Slavic Conferences studying at the Roman universities was held at the General Curia.

During the meeting, the Mass was presided by the Minister General, fra Massimo Fusarelli, who underlined in his homily the value and the importance of the relationship of each brother with the living God, who, like a Pastor who know all his sheep and takes care of them intimately, offers them his presence and his friendship.

Referring to Christ, the Minister General underlined that for St. Francis it was not important to present the nativity scene, but to celebrate the presence of the living God.  “At Greccio Francis celebrated Christmas wanting to remember the poverty and the hardships in which Jesus wished to be born in Bethlehem.  And celebrating the Eucharist at the nativity scene Frances wanted to say, he is alive, he is here.

The pre-Christmas meeting, organized by the Definitor General, Fr. Konrad Cholewa, was held for the third time.  In the previous two years it took place at the Collegio di Sant’Antonio at Rome.

“One of the most important dimensions of St. Francis’ life was fraternity.  For me also this dimension is of great importance. For this reason, I believe that these meetings help us to experience fraternity, to enjoy the gift of a brother, but above all, during this time, we can contemplate the presence of the living God in the brotherhood, the God who, in the incarnation of his Son, appeared to the whole world in Bethlehem”, said Fra Konrad.

Twenty student friars from Poland, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina participated, as well as the Secretary General of Formation and Studies, Fr. Darko Tepert, and the Student Rector of our Franciscan college in Rome, Fr. Angel Montoya.

The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange Christmas greetings.
