SISTER EUFEMIA GLENNY A. MERCEDES, NEW SUPERIOR GENERAL OF THE FRANCISCAN MISSIONARIES OF MARY

On 21st March, Sister Eufemia Glenny Araujo  Mercedes was elected by the General Chapter of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary as the new Superior General, succeeding the French Sister Françoise Massy, who had led the Congregation for the last eight years. Sister Glenny, 58, is the 11th Superior to succeed the Foundress, Blessed Mary of the Passion, in the governance of the Congregation. Sister Eufemia was born in Peru and was a missionary for 16 years in Pakistan, and from 2014 until the day of her election, she served in Rome as General Councillor of the Congregation. The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary are present on all continents with 23 communities in Africa, 18 in Asia, 18 in Europe, 14 in America and one in Australia. The canonical election of the new Superior General was presided over by Brother Massimo Fusarelli, Minister General of our Order.
