The Advanced School of Medieval and Franciscan Studies

The Advanced School of Medieval and Franciscan Studies is a post-graduate academic centre for those who want to deepen and advance their knowledge of medieval culture, dealing mainly with the historical period between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries. The School’s specific purpose is to promote interdisciplinary research and the training of specialists in various fields, in particular literature, philosophy, theology, law and history, above all attending to the critical editions of the texts. Particular attention is given to medieval Franciscan authors and texts and to their manuscript tradition; codicology exercises are performed on the codices of the Library. The teaching staff is built on the basis of high qualification criteria and makes use of the presence of specialists from Italian and international Academic Centres. The School in collaboration with LUMSA provides a second level Master's degree in the Franciscan Middle Ages and a workshop of hagiography, philology, edition, interpretation of sources, in Partnership with AISSCA, the Aracoeli Cultural Centre and the Centro Studi Santa Rosa da Viterbo. The Advanced School of Medieval and Franciscan Studies works in close collaboration with the Quaracchi Publishers (today in Rome at St Isidore’s College) and with the Scotist Commission. The School is a member of FIDEM (Fédération Internationale des Instituts d'Études Médiévales) and sponsored by UNESCO. The Italian Lullism Centre operates in the School as well as the Sinica Commission of the Order of Friars Minor. The scientific contribution of the teachers and students of the School is collected in the Medioevo series of the Pontifical Antonianum University.
