01 March 2022
“I arrived in Coyoacan, a historic friary in Mexico City, and then went to the North of Mexico to the Province of San Junipero Serra on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its foundation,” said Br Massimo Fusarelli, Minister General. Together with Definitor General Br Joaquín Echeverry, he visited the Mexican Province of San Junipero Serra from 23 to 27 February 2022 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Province’s foundation. During the five days of the visit, Br Massimo had several meetings with the guardians of the houses of formation and the Secretariat for Formation and Studies of the Province. The high point of his visit was last Saturday, 26 February, when the Minister presided at the Jubilee Mass for the anniversary of the Province’s establishment. In addition to the meetings with the friars of the Province of San Junipero Serra, the Minister met with the Santa Maria de Guadalupe Conference on his last day in Mexico. This Conference includes the Mexican, Central American Caribbean Provinces. “The final meeting with the Provincial Ministers and Conference Secretaries of the Guadalupe Conference completed these enriching days of meeting, celebration, reflection and prayer,” shared the Minister General. The San Junipero Serra Province is located in the west of Mexico, on the border with the United States, covering the Mexican states of Baja California North, Baja California South, Sonora and Sinaloa. The friars are engaged in the service of evangelisation in various parishes, education and assistance to immigrants seeking a better life in the neighbouring United States. It is worth mentioning that the Minister spent the month of February visiting three Entities of the Order: the Province of the Holy Family in Egypt, the Custody of the Protomartyrs in Morocco and finally, the Province of San Junipero Serra in Mexico.
