VIII Centenary of the Assisi Pardon: Ancient Documents, Manuscripts and Early Printed Works
01 July 2016
As part of the cultural events celebrating the 800th anniversary of the Pardon of Assisi or the
Porziuncola Indulgence (1216-2016), an exhibit of ancient documents, manuscripts and early printed works has been organized to illustrate the history of this plenary indulgence, which since the 13th century has seen multitudes of pilgrims come to this place for the feast of August 2.
The documents, manuscripts and early printed works on exhibit come from the
libraries of the Sacro Convento of Assisi and of the
Porziuncola Friary and from other important Italian and International libraries, including the
Vatican Library. The exhibit will feature the
Bull of Celestine V for the Aquila pardon and the
Bull of Boniface VIII for the first Jubilee of 1300.
The inauguration of the exhibit will be on
Saturday 2 July at 5:00 pm at the
Refettorietto of the
Porziuncola. The exhibit will be accessible in the Saint Pius X Hall in the Porziuncola Museum in Santa Maria degli Angeli from
2 July to 1 November 2016 – with free admission – daily from 9.30-12.30; 15-19.
