APPOINTMENT OF BISHOP JOSÉ DE JESÚS GONZÁLEZ HERNÁNDEZ AS BISHOP OF CHIPANCINGO-CHILAPA

The Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed Bishop José de Jesús González Hernández, OFM, Bishop of the Prelature of Jesús María, Mexico, as Bishop of Chilpancingo-Chilapa. Bishop José de Jesús González Hernández was born in Etzatlán, Archdiocese of Guadalajara, on 25 December 1964. His first profession of vows was on 15 August 1987, and his solemn profession on 18 October 1992. He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1994. He subsequently held various positions in the Order and in the Church in Mexico, the Holy Land, Sweden, Belgium and Mozambique, where he was parish priest of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Inhambane. Appointed bishop prelate of Jesús María, El Nayar, Mexico by Pope Benedict XVI on 27 February 2010, he was ordained bishop the following 25 May in the Cathedral of Jesús María, El Nayar. Bishop Jesús is also responsible for the Indigenous Pastoral Dimension of the Episcopal Conference of Mexico and a member of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
