About us

The General Secretariat for Missions and Evangelization animates the vocation of all the friars for the evangelizing mission; it promotes and supports all forms of evangelization and promotes international collaboration between the Conferences of Provincial Ministers.

The Secretariat is divided into two distinct animations that must cooperate jointly in their respective services:

1. General animator for the Missions takes care of the Missions of the Order, with special care for the Foundations or Custodies dependent on the Minister General, carrying out this care with periodic visits and contacts with the media;
2. General animator for Evangelization takes care of the sectors of evangelization in the Order, such as Parishes, educational and welfare centers, sanctuaries and conventual churches, preaching, missions to the people.

The tasks of the General Secretariat for Missions and Evangelization are:

• to support and animate the testimony of the Franciscan missionary presence in the Order;
• to care for and promote, with the appropriate means and initiatives, evangelization in the Order;
• to coordinate and accompany the missionary activities of the Provinces and of the Order;
• to discern, in the light of the Franciscan charism and according to the needs of our time, all evangelization initiatives;
• to promote ever greater collaboration between Provinces and Conferences of Provincial Ministers;
• to help and cooperate with the Minister General and his Definitory in applying the mandates of the General Chapters relating to mission and evangelization;
• to take care of correspondence with the Entities dependent on the Minister General (excluding the houses dependent on the Minister General in Rome), except for what concerns formation, and to safeguard the relative archive.
